FAQs

What conditions do you treat?

Our primary focus is on optimising digestive health because gut health is what drives many conditions. We treat and support IBS, SIBO, bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, reflux, H.pylori infections, coeliac disease inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.

Whole body health starts with supporting the gut but it doesn't end there. Our team also supports iron deficiency, thyroid conditions, anxiety, depression, endometriosis, adenomyosis, PCOS, acne, eczema and vaginal complaints such as recurrent thrush.

How do testing protocols work?
During your first session with our team they will ask you a range of questions to understand your symptoms and what investigations you have had done so far. If your naturopath or nutritionist thinks further testing is needed, they will discuss that with you and put through the referrals. The results of the tests then form part of the information used to put together your treatment plan.

We don't always need to do functional tests such as microbiome maps and SIBO breath tests. Often basic blood tests can give us the information we need. It's case by case.

How does your approach differ to conventional medicine?
We believe in collaborative healthcare and like to work with other members in your team such as your doctor or specialists to provide comprehensive care. We don't see ourselves as an alternative to conventional medicine practitioners, but rather that we complement the care they are already providing.

We have the benefit of being able to spend at least 30 minutes with you for each session, which us allows us to go deep with your care and support you holistically.

How does telehealth work? What if I need supplements or herbs?
All consultations are conducted via Zoom (or phone call if you prefer) and follow the same process as an in-clinic appointment. Your clinician will organise any testing and arrange for the test kits to be posted to your home. We also use online dispensaries to courier your supplements and herbs directly to your door.

Aside from taking place virtually, in the comfort of your own home, the consultation process remains the same.

What happens during an initial consultation?
Initial consultations go for either 60 or 90 minutes, depending on which option you choose. Your clinician will ask you about your current health concerns, case history and review any test results you have provided. They will develop your treatment plan to get you started, refer you for any tests if needed, and will clearly explain the next steps.

Do I have to take liquid herbs?
Not necessarily! We get it. They don't taste the nicest and if you are sensitive to strong tastes, liquid herbs might not be for you. Your clinician will always check with you first how you cope with strong flavours and if required will choose capsule or tablet formulas if herbs form part of your prescription.

Are you going to make me stop eating all of the foods I love?
Where possible our approach is to add in more of what your body needs and gradually reduce any foods that are getting in the way of you achieving your health goals. We only suggest eliminating food groups (e.g. dairy or gluten-containing foods) if there's a very good reason for it and your clinician will always chat to you about this first to ensure the plan feels achievable for you.

How long will it take for me to feel better?
The duration of treatment varies from person to person and depends on a number of factors including how long you have been dealing with your symptoms, whether you have multiple health concerns and your capacity to make dietary and lifestyle changes. Many clients see improvement within 8-12 weeks when following personalised protocols based on testing. Everyone's journey looks different and we always endeavour to work with you where you are at, at a pace that suits you.

Can you help with IBS?
Yes, IBS is our primary specialisation. We investigate underlying causes (dysbiosis, SIBO, food sensitivities, malabsorption) rather than just managing symptoms.

Do you prescribe medications?
As naturopaths and nutritionists, we do not prescribe medications. We work with evidence-based supplementation and dietary interventions.

What's included in your services?
Services include 1:1 consultations, functional testing coordination, personalised nutrition plans, and ongoing support. We offer package options for different needs.

How do I book a consultation?
You can book directly through our website or contact hello@thebiomecollective.com. First consultations are available via telehealth.
